COMMUNICATIONS INTERNSHIP

JOB OVERVIEW:

Beautiful Dream Society’s operations and reach are growing daily. We seek 2-3 Communications Interns (unpaid, volunteer) to handle this growth. You will help us make history as we revolutionize what it means to communicate about and inspire people to take part in ending human trafficking.

BDS Communications Interns have effective writing skills, both in terms of the heart of their writing and in their clarity, organization, grammar, and efficiency. They have an eye for basic, aesthetically pleasing designs. They are happy to help with administrative tasks needed for a non-profit to operate effectively.

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

The internship will begin as soon as possible5-10 hours a week are required, including a weekly team meeting with BDS Communications Director in greater OKC or via web conferencing. Scheduled time for working on projects is flexible. Consideration will be given for midterms, final exams, big projects and papers, etc.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

BDS requires and will provide approximately 5 hours of training on: human trafficking, BDS’s programming and policies, and communication about human trafficking.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

  • Assist in creating and curating content for various social media platforms, working proactively to find new content
  • Write at least one original blog post per month (approximately 500 words) on a topic related to BDS’ work
  • Assist in prescheduling social media posts
  • Assist in editing blog posts written by BDS staff
  • Help manage BDS content
  • Track performance of social media, emails, and website using a variety of analytic tools
  • Help write and edit newsletters
  • Assist in developing fundraisers
  • Volunteer at BDS events when possible
  • Help manage website
  • Help line up and speaking engagements in Tulsa area for BDS Communications Director

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred majors: Communications, Media, Public Relations, English, Writing, Journalism (other majors may be considered, however, based on additional experience/qualifications)
  • Strong grammar skills and ability to edit others’ writing for errors, organization, and coherency
  • Basic design and image creation skills (e.g., Photoshop and/or PicMonkey) skills a plus (not required-we can train you!)
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion when crafting messages
  • Willingness to submit to BDS’ communication guidelines and abide by them diligently
  • A heart for developing your worldview, capable of adapting quickly Beautiful Dream Society’s culture, vision, and message
  • Strong level of personal initiative to set priorities, work independently, and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written communication
  • Strong familiarity with social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, other social media platforms
  • Excellent time management skills; Ability to receive a set of tasks from others and complete them in a timely manner
  • A positive, can-do attitude!

SHELTER PROGRAM ADVOCATE

Job Type: Unpaid, Volunteer
Department: Residential Services
Location: OKC Shelter
Reports To: Program Director
Responsible For: No direct reports
Works With: Clients, Advocates, Service Providers, and Program Director

JOB OVERVIEW: 

This Shelter Program Advocate is responsible for the emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing of guests entrusted to our care. Advocates provide guests with holistic care, ensure cleanliness of shelter, carryout the day to day activities as scheduled by Program Director and document daily. Shelter Program Advocates impart coping and life skills, in a safe and structured environment thru modeling Christian values and providing trauma informed care.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Guest Supervision

  • Being attentive to guests
  • Being aware of surroundings and guest mood
  • Abiding by BDS guidelines & Universal Precautions

Guest needs

  • Notify Program Director immediately with all health concerns
  • Adhere to transportation safety guidelines
  • Assist guests with educational/vocational research requests as needed
  • Supervising and assisting guests in the preparation and cooking of food.
  • Educating guests on healthy boundaries, developing coping and conflict resolution skills
  • Model Christian values

Maintenance

  • Regularly clean staff room, office, and common area locations
  • Supervise clients in routine chores and daily duties
  • Provide for routine care and maintenance of agency vehicles
  • Perform other minor maintenance as able

Documentation/Communication

  • Immediately report to Program Director/team as appropriate, any concerns & possible solutions
  • Debrief following shelter staff advocate on day’s activities and any relevant client information, moods, etc.
  • Complete daily documentation on guest services provided in guest Service Notes

Continued Training

  • Attend monthly BDS Shelter staff meetings/trainings and other related trainings to ensure currency of skills and job related knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree in Social Services, Health Care, and/or Mental Health (or related) field highly desired
  • Completion of 24 hour Attorney General mandated training facilitated by BDS or approved partner agency
  • Completion of background check
  • Approval by Director following interview
  • Demonstrable capacity to perform well in stressful situations
  • Be 21 years of age at minimum

ADMINISTRATIVE INTERN 

JOB OVERVIEW:

Beautiful Dream Society’s operations and reach are growing daily. We seek administrative Interns (unpaid, volunteer) to handle this growth. You will help us make history as we revolutionize what it means to communicate about and inspire people to take part in ending human trafficking.

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

The internship will be a minimum of 6 months to one year.

Approximately 10 hours a week minimum preferred, including a weekly team meeting(s) with BDS Executive Director.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

BDS requires a minimum of, and will provide approximately 5 hours of training on: human trafficking, BDS’s programming and policies, and communication about human trafficking.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

  • Provide office support functions including word processing, filing, copying, composing a variety of business documents, gathering and compiling data, and balancing and coordinating a workload for multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Assist in drafting forms, printing and copying information for distribution
  • Provide support for team administrative projects
  • Assist Executive Director in maintaining updated event and community calendars
  • Prepare, organize and set up meeting rooms for trainings, workshops and meetings
  • Conduct research as needed
  • Schedule appointments and return phone calls
  • Writing and replying to emails
  • Assistance with grant writing
  • Assist in developing fundraisers
  • Write and edit reports
  • Attend meetings with Executive Director if needed, and take notes
  • Conduct business on behalf of Executive Director, as needed
  • Help coordinate efforts at fundraising events
  • Assist with donor correspondence
  • Line up speaking engagements
  • Speak publicly on behalf of BDS

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree or current college student preferred
  • Daytime availability preferred
  • Experienced in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint required; experience in Prezi preferred

Administrative Intern to Oklahoma Assistant Director

Works With: Oklahoma Assistant Director, community contacts, volunteers

Job Overview:

The Administrative Intern is responsible for assisting the Oklahoma Assistant Director with general administration including, but not limited to: sending email correspondence; communicating with community contacts; planning, coordinating, and working BDS community events; managing and documenting product inventory; maintaining relevant documentation; scheduling appointments; researching resources; and managing calendars.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prevention: BDS coordinates professional trainings and community events for the purpose of educating individuals and organizations on issues related to human trafficking and how they can join the fight against trafficking.
  • Protection: BDS operates Oklahoma City’s only state certified emergency shelter for victims of sex trafficking, as well as a non-residential program and 24 hour crisis hotline to assist victims.
  • Partnerships: BDS believes the way to end trafficking is through the creation and utilization of community partnerships. BDS partners with community social service providers, law enforcement, the faith community, businesses, universities, and individuals.

Qualifications:

Applicant should be detail oriented, organized, motivated, and demonstrate excellent communication skills. An above average level of knowledge regarding domestic human trafficking is preferred. Continued training: Attend recommended BDS meetings/trainings and other related trainings to ensure currency of skills and job related knowledge.
