Preaching with an Interpreter

Sunday Morning, March 8th—Last day in Lesotho

This morning, I preached at the 9:00am worship experience at Fill The Gap Ministries Church which was founded many years ago by Bishop Michael Kolisang and his lovely wife who is known to me as Ma Bish. It was quite an interesting morning as I only just met the Bishop and Ma Bish on the platform during praise and worship after Papa T had picked us up at the hotel and escorted us up on to the platform. I don’t know if I have ever seen a more beautiful sight as I saw when I saw the building packed (and I do mean packed—jammed in every aisle and all the way to each side wall—some people stood for the entire 3 hour worship experience) with several hundred, maybe up to a thousand people who were loudly and actively worshipping God with singing, dancing, clapping, shouting and waving with all of their might. It was a fantastic experience which I shall never forget.

This is a great and influential church in the city of Maseru and in the whole country of Lesotho. It is a full gospel, evangelistic church whose primary goal is to see the people of the country saved, healed and delivered by the power of the Gospel, and we did see salvation, healing and deliverance on that Sunday.

Bishop Kolisang welcomed me to speak (my first time to preach with an interpreter) and again I told them my dream and the story of how I had come to be in their country, and I gave them the word that the Lord had given me for the Basotho people which is “God has not forgotten Lesotho”. I also preached to them that THEY had what was needed to feed the bodies, spirits and souls of the hungry Basotho people in their mountainous nation just as the boy with the loaves and fishes and the disciples implementing Jesus’ plan had fed over 5000 in the mountains of Israel with even more left over through the miracle working power of Jesus Christ.

—I told them to take what was in their hands (the gospel, their resources, their influence…..whatever ) even though they didn’t feel qualified and it seemed like only enough for them and their own family and surrender it to God to use as He desires to ‘feed’ their nation.
—I told them that God would GIVE them the plan, just as he gave it to the disciples. They didn’t need to invent a plan—God already has one.
—They needed to listen to God and OBEY—walk and distribute, just as the disciples listened to Jesus and carried the small piece of bread to each group of people gathered even though they may have felt foolish.
—I told them the the miracle happened when the GAVE the bread out to the people—that’s when they saw the division.
—I told them that they were the best God has in this country and that through even this one church, God could change an entire nation.
—I told them that after all the Basotho were fed, there were be more than enough left over to spill out into all of Africa.

Then I gave an altar call for salvation and rededication just as we do at Victory Church. Hands went up all over the building and I called the people forward and led them in prayer to receive Christ as we customarily do. The Bishop desired me to lay hands on each one and because of the large number of people that responded, he called on Teresa and Danita and the other pastors to help which they willingly did. It was a great morning and God was so faithful to give me this opportunity to share His love with our Basotho brothers and sisters.

After the altar call, the Bishop looked at the congregation and then looked at me and said that he was astonished and amazed that God would speak to a little lady all the way in America and send her here with a word for them. He said that He felt my words were a confirmation that God was ready to implement the plans and vision that He had been giving them for a long while. They have 2 Sunday worship experiences which are packed to capacity in a building which they have had for more than 20 years. They desperately need more seating space and more parking. They had to read the license plate numbers of 5 people to be dismissed early to move their cars so everyone else could get out of the parking lot. Papa T had told me earlier that they have purchased land on which they will build a brand new 6000 seat auditorium which they will begin as the Lord provides finances. Bishop Kolisang said that He was confident that if God would go to the trouble of giving me such a detailed dream that he would continue to lead and guide me through the rest of my journey. He reiterated to me a similar exhortation that the pastor of River of Life Church had also spoken after I had addressed the Women In Evangelism. He encouraged the people not to try to influence or persuade me in any way, but to just leave it to the Holy Spirit to let the plan unfold.
