Every thirty seconds another person becomes a victim of human trafficking.
The Beautiful Dream Society is comprised of individuals, organizations, government officials, and people like you who are committed to abolishing injustice in the 21st century in Lesotho and Southern Africa.. Our goal is to raise awareness, take legal action where appropriate, and offer rehabilitation services to rescued victims of human trafficking in order to fight this injustice from a comprehensive approach. Additionally, we want to address this issue from a preventative standpoint and cripple the human trafficking trade so there are fewer victims that need to be rescued.
When confronted with the statistics, the issue of human trafficking can be overwhelming, to say the least. Like the rest of Africa, with its extensive porous borders and authorities stretched to the limit to cope, South Africa has a human-trafficking problem. Although there’s little actual data because police records don’t even single out trafficking as a crime, South Africa is a source, transit point, and destination for human trafficking where there is a demand for child prostitutes by white tourists. The trade does well when a child’s protective environment – school, family and community - collapses.
Surrounded by South Africa, in the tiny mountain kingdom of Lesotho with the third highest HIV rate in the world and where 23-29% of the population are HIV positive, trafficking in women, boys, and girls is thriving for reasons of sexual exploitation, pornography, domestic servitude, forced labour, and other criminal activities.
We can ALL play a part in fighting injustice… it is the only way we can win.
At the Beautiful Dream Society, through our Project Centre and Beautiful Dream Centre in Maseru, Lesotho to be operational in 2011, our dream is to see lives made beautiful. Anyone can join – everyone can make a difference.
